This is a project I've been developing in python with the Pygame API in summer 2009,

It's a tile based scrolling engine, it was originaly aming to enable every user to create a pokemon style game, the user could therefore open an editor which I program on the side and to create mapfiles by placing tiles, pokemons, objects wherever they wanted. the engine was handeling pnjs, collisions, layers ( you would desapear when passing behind a tree and hide the tree if you were in front of him ) the user could build his world on 4 diferent level enabeling which could represent caves or the inside of buildings
